Why is the Ouray Hot Springs Pool being renovated?
Since first opening its doors in 1927, The Ouray Hot Springs Pool has served the local and regional communities of Western Colorado as the premier destination for relaxation and family fun. After 89 years in operation, the Ouray Hot Springs Pool facility is beginning to show major wear and tear on its infrastructure. Major leaks within the foundation, inconsistent temperatures in the pools, and an outdated filtration system are beginning to have an impact on the patron experience. In an attempt to maintain this valuable asset, the City of Ouray organized a citizens committee in 2012 tasked with reviewing, prioritizing and recommending essential improvements to the Ouray Hot Springs Pool. In August of 2015, the Ouray City Council adopted and approved the final master plan design for the Ouray Hot Springs Pool. As the “Jewel” of the San Juan’s, the Ouray Hot Springs Pool has served multiple generations of families and friends in creating memories to last a lifetime. Help us keep this facility alive for future generations to come!
What is being accomplished?
As set out in the Master Plan, the entire facility will be renovated in a multi-phase project.
Phase 1 is currently underway and includes the entire demolition, excavation and re-building of our pools, filtration building, grounds and pool deck. New additions during this phase include in-water lighting, new and taller waterslides, climbing wall, expanded seating, shaded soaking and greater handicap access to the pools!
Phase 2 will include the demolition and re-building of our entire bathhouse facility, paved parking lot and the creation of a long awaited splash pad. New additions during this phase will also include expanded indoor seating, family changing rooms and new lockers.
How will my donation help?
Phase 1: Current project costs are set at 9,700,000. At this time, approximately 80% of the funding has been secured. Major contributions thus far have come from the citizens of Ouray ($5,300,000 in bond issuance), Department of Local Affairs ($2,000,000) and Great Outdoors Colorado ($275,000). While additional grant opportunities are being pursued, we are looking to YOU to put us over the top!
Phase 2: Funding opportunities for phase 2 of the project will begin upon completion of phase 1.
